Woman killed, man critically injured in Los Angeles hit-and-run

Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a woman and critically injured a man as they walked in the Vermont Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles Sunday night.

Officers responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian call on West 94th Street near Vermont Avenue around 10:40 p.m.


“Witnesses contacted us and advised that they saw a vehicle .. possibly a gray KIA driving northbound on Vermont at a high rate of speed,” Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Kevin Ahlemeir said.

The pedestrians were struck by the northbound 2023 Kia Sorento while in a marked crosswalk, the LAPD stated in a news release.

“The driver failed to stop and render aid after striking the pedestrians and later abandoned the
vehicle near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and 90th Street, fleeing on foot to an unknown
location,” the news release stated.

One of the victims, a woman believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim, an unidentified man, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The vehicle was impounded as evidence following the crash.

Authorities have not provided any description of the suspect and are asking the public for help in identifying the driver.
