A Los Angeles woman who allegedly pointed a gun at police officers after an early morning fight in the parking structure at the Hollywood & Highland complex was charged Tuesday with six counts of assault with a firearm.

Diamond Shirley Vargas, 47, was arrested early Friday after a fight with another woman that brought Los Angeles Police Department officers to the scene. When they arrived, she allegedly raised her gun at them and was then shot in the leg by police.

Vargas was charged Tuesday but her arraignment was delayed due to medical issues, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Officers responded to the popular Hollywood retail-hotel complex about 1:30 a.m. on the day after Christmas to find Vargas arguing with another woman while armed with a baseball bat, police said. Vargas then allegedly pulled out a handgun, pointed it at the woman, a security guard and officers. At least one officer opened fire on her.

Vargas has a prior conviction for assault and robbery, according to the DA’s office.

She faces more than 30 years in state prison if convicted as charged. Prosecutors planned to ask that her bail be set at $1.3 million.

She was being held at Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood on $100,000 bail, county inmate records showed Tuesday.
