A young woman was killed when she lost control of her vehicle and ended up driving over the side of a cliff on Pacific Coast Highway in the Malibu area Thursday.

The crash was reported around 9:45 p.m. on the stretch of highway near Leo Carrillo State Beach.

A woman in her 20s was driving northbound in a Honda CRV when for unknown reasons she veered into the southbound lanes and struck a parked Toyota Yaris, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jon Relles confirmed.

“The Honda continued over the side of the roadway and collided with a power pole before overturning down the embankment,” Relles said.

The driver was then ejected from the vehicle and found several feet down the cliff.

The unidentified woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people who were in the Toyota were hospitalized with minor injuries.

It was unclear if drugs, alcohol or speed were a factor in the crash.

The crash comes as officials in Malibu have taken measures to increase safety on the highway.

In October, four Pepperdine University students died after being struck near La Costa Beach.
