An argument at a McDonald’s in midtown Manhattan was believed to have led to a triple shooting near Penn Station that left one person dead and two others injured, according to KTLA sister station WPIX.
The incident began around 6 a.m. when a man entered the fast-food restaurant and briefly spoke with several people who were drinking coffee, the television station reported, citing New York Police Department officials. It did not appear that the man knew the group.
Police have not said what the conversation was about.
Soon after, the group left the restaurant and went into the subway station, followed by the gunman, police said. The gunman then fired a total of four rounds, apparently from a 9 mm weapon, according to the television station.
The shooting occurred near 35th Street and Eight Avenue, about a block north of normally busy Penn Station.
One person was shot in the head and later died at a hospital, WPIX reported. The victim’s name has not yet been released.
A second man was shot once in the neck and stomach, while a third victim suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, police told the station.
Their conditions were not immediately known.
The gunman was described as a heavy-set male who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, the station reported.
He may have fled the scene in a silver car, but a more detailed description of the vehicle was not provided.
