At least 30 people died in a landslide in Myanmar while searching for precious jade, state-run media reported Sunday.
More people are missing, the Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper reported.
The landslide took place Saturday in Hpakant, in the northern state of Kachin.
Landslides are common in the area as people dig across perilous mounds trying to find valuable jade, the newspaper said.
Myanmar is the source of much of the world’s finest jadeite, a nearly translucent green stone that is highly valued in neighboring China, according to the newspaper.
