Police and other officials in Seattle are investigating the death of a man who fell down an elevator shaft at a building in downtown Seattle on Sunday, KTLA sister station KCPQ reported.

The Seattle Fire Department responded to a rescue call at Avis Car Rental, 1919 5th Ave., just after 7:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found the man had fallen at least 30 feet down the elevator shaft.

Medics rushed the man to Harborview Medical Center, where he later died.

Officers told KCPQ the victim was an employee at the car rental business.

Homicide detectives are working alongside the Department of Labor and Industries and OSHA to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s fall.
