Stunning New Footage of Northern, Southern Lights Released by NASA

NASA released stunning new footage of the aurora borealis (Northern Lights) and the aurora australis (Southern Lights) shot from the International Space Station.

NASA recently released images of the Northern and Southern lights.

The 5-minute video, shot in ultra-high definition, featured time-lapse shots of the spectacular event, CNN reported.

The aurora borealis got the “Northern Lights” nickname because it can best be seen at high northern latitudes.

The aurora australis is visible in extreme southern latitude areas like Antarctica, Chile and Australia.

The lights occur when electrically charged sub-atomic particles in Earth’s magnetic field collide with neutral atoms in the upper atmosphere.
