Police recently released surveillance video of a hit-and-run crash in hopes of finding the driver who struck and injured an 8-year-old boy as he was riding his skateboard in Tempe, Arizona last week.
Video showed the boy skateboarding across a residential street when he was struck by a dark gray Chevrolet, which appeared to slow down for a moment before taking off.
Another boy could be seen in the video crossing the same street on a scooter seconds before the skateboarder, identified as Zion, was hit.
“Who does that to a child,” Jamie Campbell, Zion’s mother said. “I’m very irate.. I’m very disturbed.. angry.. frustrated with everything.”
Zion had just gotten off a bus when he was struck by the driver, who police believe knew that the boy had been hit.
“You can see in the video … the people in the vehicle know they hit somebody because they hit their brake lights. And then they take off,” said Lt. Michael Pooley with the Tempe Police Department.
Zion escaped with a few nasty scrapes and a fractured foot, CNN reported.
“He has injuries.. he’s gonna have to live with this for the rest of his life,” Campbell said.
Police released the surveillance video in hopes of identifying the person who hit Zion.
The driver was described as a white or Hispanic woman in her 20s who may have had a female passenger in the vehicle, local television station KPHO reported.
