A pursuit involving a stolen vehicle ended when the car crashed into a building in West Covina early Wednesday, according to authorities.

The incident started around 4 a.m. when the California Highway Patrol attempted to stop the vehicle, which had been stolen, CHP Officer Peter Bishop said.

After the vehicle failed to pull over, a brief chase ensued. It ended when the car crashed into a building near the area of North Garvey and Willow avenues.

Officers were able to capture the driver, but the passenger fled the scene on foot, according to Bishop.

The driver’s name has not been released.

The structure, described as a medical college building, sustained major damage and has been red tagged, an official at the scene said.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured in the collision.

No further details have been released.
