Olympians Greg Louganis, Janet Evans and Allyson Felix were named as grand marshals of the 2017 Tournament of Roses Parade Thursday.
The grand marshals will ride in the 128th Rose Parade themed “Echoes of Success,” which “tells the story of how our character has developed through the selfless contributions of others and celebrates their inspirational gifts,” the Tournament of Roses website stated.
The announcement was made just after 9:30 a.m. at the iconic Tournament House in Pasadena.
A four-time Olympic champion and U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame member, Louganis is widely considered one of the greatest divers in history.
Louganis, from El Cajon, earned a total of five Olympic medals, won five world championship titles and 47 national titles (more than anyone in U.S. history), according to the bio page on greglouganis.com.
Evans, from Placentia, competed in the 1988, 1992, and 1996 Olympics and is also a member of the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame.
Evans broke a total of seven world records in swimming and won three gold medals in the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, according to her website.
Felix, who was born in Los Angeles, is a four-time track and field Olympian and nine-time Olympic medalist.
She has won six gold medals, including two at the recently concluded 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, according to the Team USA website.
The 2017 Rose Parade will take place on Monday, Jan. 2.
Last year’s grand marshal was documentary filmmaker Ken Burns.
