WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – President Joe Biden’s future as the Democratic nominee remains uncertain.

An eighth House Democrat called on the president to step aside as questions swirl behind the scenes.

Several Democrats who publicly endorsed the president as the nominee are expressing real concern.

However, President Biden is trying to map a path forward.

“I’ve never been more optimistic about America’s chances,” said Biden.

Wednesday morning the president delivered remarks to union leaders, a key voter base that propelled his path to victory in 2020.

However, others have expressed ongoing concerns about the president’s ability.

“While I have expressed concerns, I do believe this is fundamentally his decision,” said Rep. Nikki Budzinski (D-Ill.).

Since the debate, election forecaster Cook Political Report has moved three battleground states to lean Republican.

Wednesday, New York Congressman Pat Ryan became the 8th Democratic congressman to publicly call on the president to drop out of the race.

Thursday, the president will hold his first solo press conference since the debate, and he is planning to do another sit-down interview with NBC’s Lester Holt on Monday.
