Rajon Rondo officially announced his retirement from the NBA on Monday night.
The four-time All-Star, who won one championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and another with the Lakers in 2020, was very blunt with his decision on the “All the Smoke” podcast hosted by former NBA players Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes, who, like Rondo, played for the Los Angeles Clippers at one point during their careers.
“Absolutely…yeah, I’m done,” Rondo said when asked by Barnes if the NBA had seen the last of him. “I can’t…I’d rather spend time with my kids.”
Rondo, 38, last played in the 2021-22 season, splitting his time between the Lakers and the Cleveland Cavaliers after being traded midway through the season.
Throughout his time in the league, he played for the Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers and the Cavaliers in addition to his two stints with the Lakers.
In 16 seasons, Rondo averaged 9.8 points, 7.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. He was also a four-time NBA All-Defensive selection in addition to leading the league twice in assists and once in steals.
