On Saturday afternoon, two local nonprofits partnered up to fly 84 pets to safety out of Burbank Airport in the wake of the devastating Southern California wildfires. The organizations, Best Friends Animal Society and Wings of Rescue, boarded 58 cats and 26 dogs onto the emergency rescue flight to a sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. Ground and aerial firefighters are working around the clock to save homes from the encroaching fire. As of Saturday afternoon, the Palisades Fire was mapped at 22,661 acres and was 11% contained. More than 5,000 structures, many of them homes, have been destroyed in the Pacific Palisades and Malibu.

As of Saturday afternoon, the wildfire had scorched 14,117 acres and was 15% contained, an improvement from the 3% containment reported Friday night. According to preliminary estimates from CalFire, over 7,000 structures have been damaged or destroyed by the blaze.
