A young boy was killed when a motorist drove into a building and then left the scene in the Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw neighborhood of Los Angeles late Tuesday night, police said.

Police responded to the scene at Crenshaw Boulevard and Rodeo Place around 11 p.m. to find a white Infiniti FX35 had crashed head-on into the corner of the building.

Investigators believe the vehicle had been speeding before the driver lost control and veered off the road, the Los Angeles Police Department stated in an update.

“The driver of the vehicle failed to remain at scene and render aid to a 4-year-old passenger in the vehicle,” police said in the news release, which also updated the child’s age.

The unidentified boy was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

“Two other passengers were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries, one of them being the 4-year-old child’s mother,” police said.

The driver is believed to have taken off in a white sedan after abandoning the wrecked Infiniti. She was described as a Black woman, possibly in her 30s, who is being sought in connection with the hit-and-run.
