A Sierra Madre resident woke up to find a large, furry surprise in her backyard Tuesday morning.
Debra Mattes recorded a massive bear wandering through her garden around 7:45 a.m. before it tried to find a place to rest.
“He tried to get under the house but realized he was way too big!” Mattes said.
Hungry bears often come down to the foothill residential areas searching for food.

Last year, a 400-pound bear spent weeks under a different Sierra Madre home. Police were eventually notified when a neighbor saw the bear slink into a hole underneath the porch.
Experts say to keep pet food inside and trash cans locked to keep bears away from your home.
