A woman told authorities she came home to find her mother dead and her father suffering from stab wounds in South Whittier Saturday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies were called to the home in the14500 block of Allegan Street near Colima Road at about 11:22 a.m. in the unincorporated area of L.A. County., authorities said.

An 83-year-old woman found with at least two stab wounds to the upper torso was pronounced dead at the scene and an 89 -year-old man with several stab wounds to the upper torso was transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Video showed paramedics wheeling a man with blood-soaked clothes on a gurney outside the home.

The Sheriff’s Department said there were no signs of forced entry into the home and it appears that the man stabbed his wife and then himself, according to a preliminary investigation.

Ambulances, firetrucks and sheriff’s vehicles flooded the street in the typically quiet residential area as neighbors watched deputies work outside the house  closed off with police tape.

Neighbors told KTLA the couple were named Bob and Marge, and were a beloved and loving couple who have lived in the same home for decades.

One neighbor, Janna Dunk, said Bob couldn’t walk on his own and Marge was suffering from dementia.

“I loved them so much, they were a great couple. And I thought they loved each other too. I still believe they do,” Dunk said.

The case is under investigation. No further details were immediately available.
