Authorities announced that a man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in connection to a vicious assault that occurred over the weekend.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Perris Station were dispatched to the 21000 block of Mountain Avenue in Good Hope at 7:45 a.m. Sunday on reports of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Good Hope is a census-designated place located west of Perris and northeast of Lake Elsinore.

When deputies arrived at the scene – a rural neighborhood with dirt roads, according to Google Street View – they found a man suffering from “traumatic stab wounds.”

The unidentified victim was immediately rushed to a hospital where they remain in stable condition as of Monday.

Deputies began investigating and were able to identify and locate the suspect, 36-year-old Salvador Ortiz, at the scene.

Ortiz was booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta for attempted murder. Inmate search records indicate that he is also charged with assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm.

His bail was set at $1 million, and his next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Riverside Hall of Justice.

Anyone with additional information surrounding the incident is asked to contact Lead Investigator Lance Colmer at RSO dispatch by calling 951-776-1099. Calls can also be directed to the Perris Station: 951-210-1000.
