A man suspected of stealing a police department SUV was in custody Tuesday morning following a high-speed pursuit that ended with a K-9 taking him down in East Hollywood.
The incident began around 12:15 a.m. with a traffic stop near Atlantic Boulevard and Glendon Way in Alhambra.
“While Officers were contacting the driver, an unrelated male subject on foot approached the officers from behind and entered the driver’s seat of the patrol vehicle,” the Alhambra Police Department stated in a news release later in the morning.
The suspect, identified as Trung Cuong Nguyen, drove off in the vehicle and onto the 10 Freeway where a pursuit began
The chase came to an end when Nguyen stopped and got out of the vehicle near Marathon Street and Oxford Avenue in East Hollywood.
Video showed Nguyen being chased by a K-9 as he tried to flee on foot but was eventually taken down by the dog and several officers.
Nguyen was seen with a cut on his head as he was taken from the scene to a local hospital for treatment.
No further details about the suspect or a possible motive for the incident was released.
