Walking and flying dragons will greet guests as they explore How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, one of the five immersive lands that will be featured in the all-new Universal Epic Universe set to open on May 22.
The theme park resort teased the news in a blog post released Tuesday.
“The dragons that rule the skies are a sight to behold as well, and you can watch in awe as they soar above while you make your way around the theme park to each of the thrilling attractions in the Isle of Berk.”
Universal Orlando didn’t disclose how they would get dragons to fly over the theme park, but according to Theme Park Insider, the theme park may use drones, balloons or kites to portray flying dragons.
Based on the 2010 “How to Train Your Dragon” animated film, Universal Creative and DreamWorks Animation partnered to bring the land of Berk to life. The new area will feature a lagoon boasting two 40-foot-tall Viking statues, four attractions, one live show and several character (and dragon) meet-and-greet experiences.
When it opens in May, Epic Universe will feature over 50 attractions plus entertainment, dining and shopping options across other “worlds” themed to Universe Monsters, Super Mario, Harry Potter and How to Train Your Dragon franchises.
The park’s central hub, Celestial Park, will serve as an access point for the other areas. Celestial Park will also have gardens and fountains, a grand carousel and a dual-launch racing coaster known as Starfall Racers.
