If you love The Body Shop, bad news for you: the U.K.-based chain — whose sustainable, ethical products once were a staple at malls across the country — is filing for bankruptcy and has shut all its stores in the U.S.
The company also announced that its U.S. subsidiary had “ceased operations,” it’s also liquidating 33 of its 105 Canadian franchises, and “online sales via Canada’s ecommerce store will stop.”
Those looking to get their hands on their favorite products from The Body Shop will still have time to find a few bestsellers on Amazon.

What made The Body Shop special?
The Body Shop was founded in 1976 by human rights activist and environmentalist Anita Roddick and quickly became known for its natural, sustainable, ethical and cruelty-free cosmetics.
It was one of the first major companies in the world to prohibit animal testing for many of its products, and in 2019, it was certified as a “B corp,” a designation given to companies that meet environmental and transparency standards.
In 2023, The Body Shop had more than 2,500 retail locations in more than 80 countries.
But like many other retail stores that traditionally made their homes in malls, it’s struggled in recent years amid inflation and hard-to-predict consumer spending trends.
